Gresik, February 24, 2025 – PT Alur Pelayaran Barat Surabaya (APBS) organized the “Fishermen’s Sailing Safety Awareness Campaign in the Western Shipping Channel of Surabaya” in Gresik on Saturday (24/2). This event aimed to enhance fishermen’s understanding of safety procedures while operating in busy shipping lanes. The event was attended by the President Director of PT Alur Pelayaran Barat Surabaya, the Head of the Fisheries Department of Gresik Regency, as well as representatives from various relevant institutions, including KSOP Class 2 of Gresik Port and Pelindo.
In his opening remarks, the President Director of PT APBS emphasized the importance of understanding maritime regulations to reduce the risk of accidents at sea. He stressed that safety should be a top priority in all maritime activities, particularly in high-traffic areas like the Western Shipping Channel of Surabaya. He also highlighted the company’s commitment to ensuring that fishermen have adequate knowledge to navigate safely.
Meanwhile, the Head of the Fisheries Department of Gresik Regency expressed appreciation for APBS’s initiative in organizing the campaign. He noted that such activities play a crucial role in improving fishermen’s safety and reducing potential incidents at sea. He underscored that by increasing awareness of safety procedures, accident rates could be minimized, ensuring the sustainability of fishermen’s livelihoods.
The awareness campaign covered various aspects of sailing safety, including navigation procedures, the use of safety equipment, and the importance of understanding weather conditions before setting sail. Participants were also educated on applicable maritime regulations and mitigation measures for emergency situations at sea.
The event featured an interactive discussion session where fishermen had the opportunity to share the challenges they face while sailing. One of the participating fishermen expressed that such educational sessions were highly beneficial. He acknowledged that through this program, he and other fishermen gained a better understanding of safe navigation and how to avoid high-risk areas. He also hoped that similar events would be conducted regularly.
